New Choices for Youth (NCY) has nearly 30 years experience of working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in East London. We believe in the value of each and every young person; our mission is to Inspire, Inform and improve the life choices of young people. We do this by involving and listening to young people and working with them to develop services and resources to meet their needs and aspirations. Currently we run supported housing for young people leaving care, accredited training programmes to help young people gain life and employability skills, a large scale mental health and wellbeing programme, youth clubs and youth work in the London borough of Newham and an employment project for young people with complex needs such as autism in the London Borough of Redbridge.
Although we are very busy, we are still a small organisation with full/part-time workers, some on permanent, some on fixed term, some on zero hours contracts as well as volunteering. This leads to a complex workforce and quite a few HR issues as a result. Unfortunately having a part-time or full-time HR specialist is too expensive as this also attracts on costs. Bernard O'Keeffe from Supportivity has provided telephone, online support and advice to NCY for just over one year. He is very supportive offering review services for our policies and procedures, guidance and support to deal with difficult staffing issues. He is very responsive and his charges are extremely reasonable. Bernie is like part of my support team only a phone call or email away.
